June has long been thought of as the wedding month. According to Almanac.com:
June was traditionally the most popular month to marry, and still very common. Why? The goddess Juno (for whom June is named) was the protector of women in all aspects of life, but especially in marriage and childbearing, so a wedding in Juno’s month was considered most auspicious.[efn_note]Christine Schultz, “Wedding Rituals: Traditional Wedding Ceremonies,” Almanac.com, 21 November 2021.[/efn_note]
Even Hollywood has helped promote the idea of June weddings. The 1948 movie “June Bride,” starring Bette Davis and Robert Montgomery, provided modern reinforcement to the connection between weddings and the month of June.
The 1954 musical “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” continued the promotion of June weddings with its song “June Bride.”
