No sun – no moon!
No morn – no noon –
No dawn – no dusk – no proper time of day.
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member –
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! –
November!
~Thomas Hood, “November”
Though I consider myself a “summer girl” (I hate to be cold), I enjoy the month of November. Pumpkin spice is still in season. Halloween is over and the hectic Christmas/holiday season isn’t in full throttle yet. And I always look forward to making a delicious Thanksgiving dinner for my family!
Theme: All Things November
This month, we’re sharing posts that in connect in some way to November.
For example, Veterans Day falls on 11 November, so this is a great month to tell the stories of your veteran and military ancestors.
The Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) is traditionally celebrated on 1 and 2 November. Widely celebrated in Mexico, Día de Muertos is also observed in other countries by people of Mexican heritage as a joyful celebration where family and friends gather to remember their lost loved ones.
November is Aviation History Month, so tell us about your ancestors who were pilots or who designed and built airplanes.
Have you uncovered the stories of any adoptees in your family? November is National Adoption Awareness Month.
November is also National Life Writing (or National Memoir Writing) Month. This is a great time to get started writing your autobiography so your descendants won’t have to work so hard to dig up your story!
And let’s not forget “No-Shave November” and “Movember.” Did your ancestors have impressive beards and mustaches? Show them off!
