Are you looking for historical clothing for a trip to the Renaissance Faire, a living history reenactment, a LARP or SASS event, or even a costume party? If so, then I’ve got you covered!

Below is a review of eleven retailers of historical clothing for time periods ranging from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War to 1950s Retro. You should be able to find the perfect historical outfit for your next event at one of these shops!

A Colonial Dress For My Daughter

When my daughter was about eight years old, she was invited to “bring greetings” from the National Society Children of the American Revolution (N.S.C.A.R.) on the Opening Night of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s (DAR) Continental Congress. Children selected for this honor typically wore a Colonial or Revolutionary War outfit, and I needed to find a dress for my daughter… FAST.

Having no idea where to find a Colonial girl’s dress on short notice, I turned to the Internet. I needed to find a dress that was authentic, reasonably priced, and something that my daughter could tolerate wearing for one night. I eventually found a designer on Etsy who made a custom dress for about $100. My daughter even got to choose a fabric in her favorite color (which was purple, at that time).

The dress was beautiful and arrived in plenty of time for our trip to Washington, D.C. Though my daughter didn’t love wearing the dress (she really hated the mob cap), she looked adorable. She never wore it again, but we made lots of special memories (mostly mine) that night.
